David Haron testified before the Michigan House Government Operations Committee in support of HB 4773, the Michigan False Claims Act.  This bill, sponsored by Representative Gino Polidori of Dearborn, was unanimously reported out of Committee and expands the false claims jurisdiction of the state and all political subdivisions in the state.  It allows the prosecuting authorities of those entities to bring civil actions against persons and entities that defraud any of the entities and recover triple damages and penalties.  The bill also contains a qui tam provision allowing private citizens to bring civil actions against the fraudfeasors and to receive a portion of any recovery.  Twenty-two other states have similar acts.
